Custom Frameworks

While GOVERN ships with built-in frameworks (EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, ISO 42001), you can define entirely custom frameworks tailored to your organization’s governance requirements.

When to use custom frameworks

  • Your organization has internal AI ethics standards not covered by public frameworks
  • Your industry has sector-specific requirements (financial services, healthcare, defense)
  • You want to combine elements from multiple frameworks into one unified policy

Creating a custom framework

  1. Go to Policies → Frameworks → Create Framework
  2. Name your framework and describe its purpose
  3. Define the governance dimensions (categories of concern)
  4. Add scorers to each dimension from the scorer library
  5. Configure default thresholds for each scorer
  6. Publish the framework — it is now available as a template when creating policies

Framework versioning

Custom frameworks are versioned just like policies. When you update a framework, all policies based on it show a notification that a new framework version is available. You choose when to adopt the update.

Sharing frameworks

Frameworks can be marked as public within your organization, allowing any team to create policies based on them without needing to rebuild the framework configuration from scratch.
