How to Register and Manage AI Systems

The GOVERN inventory is the authoritative record of every AI system your organization operates. Systems must be registered before they can be assessed.

Registering a system manually

  1. Go to Inventory → Register System
  2. Fill in the required fields: name, description, model provider, environment, and risk classification
  3. Attach the appropriate policy (or inherit from your organization default)
  4. Click Register — the system appears in your inventory immediately

Auto-discovery

GOVERN monitoring agents automatically discover AI systems running in your infrastructure. Discovered systems appear in Inventory → Pending Discovery and require a human to review and confirm registration.

Managing registered systems

From Inventory → Systems, you can:

  • Edit system metadata (name, description, owner, tags)
  • Change the attached policy
  • Archive systems that are no longer active
  • View full assessment history for any system

Risk classification

GOVERN uses the EU AI Act risk tiers as defaults:

  • Prohibited — not permitted to operate
  • High-risk — requires full documentation and continuous monitoring
  • Limited-risk — transparency obligations apply
  • Minimal-risk — standard monitoring applies
